Mine Tunnel Network
The linked system of shafts, passages, and chambers extending beneath Carraway Gorge.
The Mine Tunnel Network is the collective term for the underground workings connecting Number Four Portal to the lesser mine entrances scattered through Carraway Gorge. The network expanded in stages as the Commission extended operations deeper into the gorge floor and the rock beneath the Tuckseed River.
The network’s full extent was never published. Engineering surveys from the 1940s reference sections of passage that appear in no surface-level documentation, and portions of the deepest level were sealed under the Commission’s safety authority before the wider closure of Number Four Portal in 1972. The sealed sections were not documented as structurally unsafe in any independent record.
